Michael A. Drebot

September 18, 1955 — January 27, 2021

Michael A. Drebot, 65, of New Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Son of the late Michael and Jean (Johnson) Drebot, he was born on September 18, 1955 in Pottsville.

Growing up in Northern Dauphin County, Mike graduated from Upper Dauphin High School in 1975. His passion to serve others began when he volunteered with the Wicinisco Fire Company. He would continue as a firefighter, and then as a member of the fire police for Fairview Township. He was a member of the New Cumberland River Rescue for 35+ years, and was past president. Mike worked at Kirsch’s Printing, New Cumberland, until it went out of business; his most recent employment was with L&M Janitorial Services. He was a giving and likeable guy, and friends would call him the “unofficial” Mayor of New Cumberland. You could find him holding court at the NC River Rescue Carnival Dime Toss stand, or bringing up the rear of every New Cumberland parade in his red and white van. He would always have side projects going to keep him busy, and he would find interesting ways to make additional income – his favorite was hunting for scrap metal. It became a hobby of his over the years, and you may have even seen him patrolling the allies and streets, looking for his next treasure. As the self-proclaimed “New Cumberland Sanitation Department,” you could take anything to Mike and he’d be sure to find a home for it. He wore his heart on his sleeve, caring for his family and strangers alike. Mike’s family will miss their loving and selfless source of entertainment.

Surviving Mike are his brothers, Jody L. Drebot (Joyce) of Wicinisco, John C. Drebot of Lykens, and Todd R. Drebot of New Cumberland; and step-sisters, Joan Saul of New Cumberland, Mary DeHart of New Cumberland, and Nancy Bender of Dauphin; his kids, Crystal Y. Peters, Lewis S. Baublitz (Kimberlee), and Raymond A. Keller; grandkids, David A. Lauffer, Alli L. Lauffer, Bryn L. Baublitz, Claytin G. Baublitz, Isabella L. Keller, and McKenzie A. Keller; great-granddaughter, Elayna R. Lauffer; nieces and nephews, Cory Drebot, Mandy Drebot, Candace Drebot, Courtney Drebot, John Drebot Jr., and many more. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-brothers, William DeHart, Paul DeHart, and Stewart DeHart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at New Cumberland River Rescue. Please wear what you like, as Mike wouldn’t have wanted you in a black suit or formal wear.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mike’s name to the New Cumberland River Rescue, 1127 Market Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
