Nellie M. Penrose

Nellie M. (Moore) Penrose, 102, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away January 31, 2014 at 6 AM at Messiah Lifeways, Upper Allen Twp., were she had been a resident for the past 15 years.

Born in Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, in 1911, she was the daughter of the late Alma Maude Moore and Fredrick A. Moore. She was married for 50 years to William M. Penrose, who died in June of 1985.

Nellie graduated from Temple School of Nursing in 1932 and worked as a private duty nurse at the Harrisburg Hospital during the 1950's.

She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill; the retired Nurses of Messiah Village; the Order of Eastern Star, Steadfast Chapter 179; the Civic Club of New Cumberland; the Cumberland County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, the Senate of Pennsylvania congratulated her with a document signed by Senator Patricia Vance. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and many crafts.

Surviving are her only child Mrs. Richard Brickley (Susan) of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Stephen W. Brickley of Marina del Rey, CA and Mrs. Thomas Deja (Jennifer) of Oak Park, IL.

A memorial service will be held at Messiah Lifeways in the chapel on Friday February 7th at 10:30 AM with Pastor Terry Rose, Director of Pastoral Ministries officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 10:30 AM in the chapel. Interment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
