Nicholas Peter Temperato

December 30, 1929 — February 11, 2022

Nicholas Peter Temperato, 92, of Camp Hill, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Peter and Rose (Ciccarelli) Temperato, born on December 30, 1929 in Rochester, NY.

Nick was a 1947 graduate of East Rochester High School, and he went on to become a machinist with American Can Company. After nearly 60 years of service and traveling the globe, he retired as Superintendent of Engineering. His career began in Fairport, NY; from there he was promoted, and would relocate to Connecticut and then Texas before landing in Camp Hill, where he and his family have lived since 1980. He was a problem solver, dealing with any mechanical issues that would arise at American Can factories or satellite locations around the world – his most memorable trip was an excursion to Venezuela. In retirement, he spent several years volunteering at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Golf was a passion of Nick’s, as well as being around friends and family. He was a founder of the Central PA, KnickNAC Tour League, a Cumberland County group of golfers who would travel the area, playing one or two courses a week, dressed in the old-fashioned knickers, sweater and cap. He was all about being with family on special occasions and holidays, and he and his wife were the consummate hosts to all, always with an open door to friends and family and entertaining company more nights than not. Nick was a very hard-working provider for his family, a loving and devoted husband to Sandy, and a tough, yet caring father to his kids. His grandchildren experienced a “softer” Nick; his granddaughter especially loved the time he would spend with her, imparting his knowledge and teaching her how to “use her brain and not her body” to logically and rationally assess and fix all sorts of everyday problems. Nick will be missed by all, except any unfortunate telemarketer who may have called over the years, as they assuredly received an earful of expletives.

Nick is survived by his daughter, Rose Ann Temperato of Camp Hill; grandchildren, Nichole Rose Temperato of Camp Hill and Kenneth Anthony Temperato of Hanover; a brother, Marvin Temperato (Frank Sestito) of Rochester, NY; daughter-in-law, Nicole Renee Temperato of Hanover; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Santina (Longo) Temperato; a son, Peter Anthony Temperato; and sisters, Fran Florin and Angelina “Angie” Giehl.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
