Paul S. Bowen

September 27, 1931 — March 9, 2022

Paul S. Bowen, 90, of New Cumberland, entered eternal life on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, joining his late wife, Doris, who passed away in April of last year. He was the son of the late Edward J. and Viola V. (Reed) Bowen, born on September 27, 1931 in Port Royal.

Growing up in Juniata County, Paul worked hard and always took an interest in how to build and fix things. He worked in the construction and carpentry fields before opening his own business in the early 1980s – Paul Bowen Home Improvement, New Cumberland. He provided for his family and took pride in the work he put into his home. He was a longtime member and past-president of the West Shore Lions Club; he would go on to become a Melvin Jones Fellow. A man of faith, Paul and his late wife attended Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland for many years. He supported his son all the way through Scouts, becoming a Scout Master and founding member of Troop 288, New Cumberland. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and Paul was extremely proud when he shot his first deer (though it was 50 years in the making). He was a Phillies fan and rooted for Penn State all his life, and he enjoyed camping, vacationing, and going on cruises with Doris after retirement. He was the guy who could fix anything, the most loving and attentive grandfather, and the rock of his family.

Surviving Paul are his children, Glenda Houser of New Cumberland and David P. Bowen (Joann) of Etters; grandchildren, Shanna L. Houser of New Cumberland, Meghan Sheraw (Matthew) of Camp Hill, and Christopher Bowen of State College; great-grandchildren, Sarah Junkins, Madison Lolo (Roudly), Hannah Keefer and Claire Sheraw; great great-grandchildren, Oakley Myers, Carter Junkins, Zion Lolo, Emma Clark and McKyah Pierre; sisters, Nancy Foose of Port Royal and Doris Mesner of Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Doris L. (Seiler) Bowen; a granddaughter, Kim Houser-Keefer; great-grandson, Zachary Myers; son-in-law, Harry Houser Jr; and four siblings, John, Donald, Loretta and Linda.
