Rev. Lloyd E. Chorpenning Jr.

December 13, 1931 — July 3, 2021

Rev. Lloyd E. Chorpenning Jr., 89, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at home, surrounded by family. The son of the late Lloyd E. Chorpenning Sr. and Evelyn I. (Bowers) Chorpenning, he was born on December 13, 1931 in New Cumberland, PA.

Lloyd grew up in Central PA, graduating from Lemoyne High School in 1949. He earned his undergraduate degree from Findlay College in Ohio and his Masters of Divinity at Oberlin University. He served as pastor at United Methodist churches in Springfield, South Hamilton, Dalton, Framingham, Winchester and Vineyard Haven (all in Massachusetts). Lloyd was completely devoted to his faith, his family, and his parishes. He touched countless lives, and he made it a point to know every single congregant at the churches he served. After raising their family in Massachusetts, he and Faye would settle in Camp Hill, PA upon retirement. Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was gracious and generous to all he encountered, and he was an amazing story teller and had an unfailing humor. In his later years, Lloyd would continue to serve the Bethany Village Community. Beyond all else, his greatest joy in life was to spend time with his family and to watch them grow.

Surviving Lloyd is his wife of 68 years, Faye Hockenberry Chorpenning; his daughters, Michelle D. Chorpenning of Shiremanstown, PA, and Diane L. Kinal (Hai H. Kinal) of East Longmeadow, MA; grandchildren, Jessica Olive (Andrew Olive) of Mason, MI, Ian Chorpenning (Megan) of Wormleysburg, PA, and Alyson Hawkins, Ethan Kinal and Hannah Kinal, all of East Longmeadow, MA; great-grandchildren, Grace and Everett Olive, and Kayden and Elizabeth Chorpenning; and a niece, Susan E. Noonan of MI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Susan Chorpenning; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3PM on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Rife Center, Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow the service in the social hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Rev. Chorpenning’s name to either the Bethany Village Care Assurance Fund, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, or to Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 E. Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011.
