Richard E. "Dick" Fisher

July 11, 1929 — March 23, 2020

Richard E. “Dick” Fisher, 90, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg. One of ten children, and the son of the late Glenn and Vera (Landis) Fisher, he was born on July 11, 1929 in Harrisburg.

Dick grew up in New Cumberland and remained there throughout most of his life. Out of high school, he was drafted, and served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was self-employed for much of his life, working as a mechanic. He owned and operated Bob & Dick’s Garage, Lemoyne, for 30+ years. He enjoyed working and being around people, and he was always ready with a joke or funny story. He was also employed at West Shore Radiator, Lemoyne, and he especially enjoyed being a cashier at Penn National Race Course, Grantville. Dick was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland. In his free time, you could find him fishing, carving wood, or shooting a game of pool. He had a fondness for carving ducks out of solid pieces of wood, and gifting them to his friends and family. His grandkids will always remember fishing with Papaw.

Surviving Dick is his wife of 64 years, Barbara (McCormick) Fisher; daughter, Vicki F. Dubs of Etters; grandchildren, Shawn A. Dubs, Alex J. Dubs (wife, Jessica), and Danielle N. Dubs; great-grandson, Luke A. Dubs; brothers, Jack Fisher and Donald Fisher; sisters, Janet Lechthaler, Judy Fisher and Patricia Drawbaugh; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard L. Fisher; son-in-law, Bob A. Dubs; brothers, Robert Fisher and Thomas Fisher; and sisters, Mary Lou Hockersmith and Veanna Murphy.

Private services will take place at the convenience of the family.
