Robert C. Baker, Jr.

November 19, 1941 — March 26, 2021

Robert C. Baker, Jr., 79, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg, Lower Paxton Township. He was born on November 19, 1941 in Newark, NJ, to the late Robert Charles Baker, Sr. and Marie Elizabeth (Garverick) Hoover.

Bob graduated from Cedar Cliff High School in 1960. He had a wonderful career as a State Farm Insurance agent, serving the West Shore and Harrisburg area for over 40 years. Bob served as president of the West Shore School Board for several years. He was also active with Camp Hill United Methodist Church; in his younger years, he played on the softball team and helped out at various church camps. The Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg was very close to his heart, and he participated in many donation drives. He was always involved with sports on some level, be it playing, umpiring, coaching or simply watching. He was, and always will be, a die-hard fan of the Harrisburg Senators and New York Yankees. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he enjoyed humoring others with his jokes. He knew how to have a good time, whether it be while traveling, shopping or deep sea fishing in the Bahamas. What he enjoyed most was laughing and enjoying the company of his family and closest friends.

Surviving Bob are his children, Melinda “Mindy” Baker Greene (Jeff) of Park Hall, MD, Mike Baker of Dover, PA, Marianne Baker-Platt (Thomas) of Wormleysburg, PA, and Kelly Baker Griffin (Bruce) of Hudson, IL; grandchildren, Kim, Jessica, Stephanie, Kyle and Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Owen and Avery; his sisters, Elizabeth Leach and Ann Pierce; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Patricia “Pat” Bankert, Michelle Casey and John Baker.

Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bob’s name to: Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
