Ronald W. Mcdonel, Sr.

Ronald W. McDonel, Sr., of Fairview Twp., New Cumberland, passed into eternal life on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born on June 17, 1948, in Harrisburg, he was the son of Thomas and Norma (Prosser) McDonel. He graduated from John Harris High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer, and was honorably discharged as Chief Warrant Officer III.

He retired as an employee instructor for the State Dept. of Welfare. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland, and VFW Post 148, Harrisburg. He and Mandy shared their faith through private devotion and worship at Moore’s Mountain Church, Mechanicsburg. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and ringing horseshoes competitively.

Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Amanda A. (Brodbeck) McDonel; his children, Ronald McDonel, Jr. (Jen) of Reading, Dawn Shope (Kevin) of Boiling Springs, and Chris McDonel (Gretchen) of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Courtney, Molly, Cameron, and Colin; a great-grandson; and a sister, Diane Dunlap of North Carolina.

A public viewing will be held from 11:30AM until a funeral service begins at 12:30PM on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with Pastor Gavin Whitcomb officiating. Immediately following, a procession will travel to Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, for a 2:30PM interment.
