Ruth Ann Sheaffer

July 24, 1930 — October 30, 2013

Ruth Ann Sheaffer, 83, of Susquehanna Twp., formerly of New Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at home.

A 1948 graduate of Middletown High School, she worked for the former Bell Telephone Co. at the Middletown Office; the former Office of Security Investigations, Olmstead A.F.B.; and retired from G.S.A. Fleet Management Office at the former New Cumberland Army Depot.

She was born and raised in Middletown, the daughter of the late John and Marie Gotshall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Sheaffer, her brother and his wife, Joseph S. and Germaine J. Gotshall.

Ruth Ann was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Cumberland; Central Penn Fitness Center; New Cumberland Olde Towne Assn.; Hershey Italian Lodge; Zembo Merry Widows; A.A.R.P.; N.A.R.F.E.; the Girls’ Lunch Club.

Ruth Ann loved life and enjoyed playing cards with her good friends, volunteering for her church, participating in water aerobics at C.P.F. C., swimming, the seashore, dancing, shopping, entertaining, going on bus trips, sending Hallmark cards for every occasion and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
She was a breast cancer survivor of seven years. Her strong faith and love of life were apparent to everyone that met her. Ruth Ann was cherished and loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all of us who’s lives she graciously touched with her generosity and unconditional love.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia M. Sheaffer of Susquehanna Twp.; a son, Gary J. (Patty) of New Cumberland; two grandchildren, Carl J. and Ryan M.; her friend and companion, August Maretta of New Cumberland.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Elaine M. Dent, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highspire Cemetery, Highspire.

Viewing will be held 4 – 6 PM on Monday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
