Ruth E. Greiner, 73, of Camp Hill, PA, died December 30, 2012, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
She was born May 21st, 1939, in Willimantic, CT, and was the daughter of Mary F. (Lane) Doubleday and Irwin C. Doubleday. She graduated from Windham Center Elementary School in 1952, Windham High School in 1956 and the University of Connecticut in 1960 with a B.A. in English Literature.
She joined the U.S. Air Force in December of 1960 and served as a Personnel Officer in Louisiana, Germany and Hawaii, having earned the AFCM, AFOUA and MSN medals.
In 1968, she married the love of life, Charles T. Greiner whom she met in Germany. Upon returning from Hawaii, they lived in AZ, CA and PA.
She returned to University in 1977 earning a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of Arizona and completed the course work for the Ph. D.
Also in CA, she returned to an old love, libraries, and was employed in several libraries there and then in New Cumberland, PA. She indulged her love for reading with several reading groups in CA and PA. Most recently, she led a mystery novel discussion group at the New Cumberland Public Library.
While in CA, she became an enthusiastic gardener growing irises, daylilies and roses. Upon moving to PA, she added hostas to her garden palette.
She loved life. She loved reading, gardening and music and most of all, she loved her husband of 43 years, her family and her many friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by cousins, Wayne and Dwight Doubleday of CT, John R. Doubleday of MA, Megan and Tom Lane of MA, Heather and Robert C. Lane of FL.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Harold S. Fox officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Penn State Cancer Institute, P.O Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852 or to the New Cumberland Public Library, One Benjamin Plaza, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
