Shawn D. Cannon Sr.

May 13, 1967 — May 24, 2021

Shawn D. Cannon Sr., 54, of Etters, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born on May 13, 1967 in Chestertown, MD, he was the son of Margaret R. (Boyer) Cannon and the late Richard F. Cannon.

Shawn grew up in Worton (Big Woods), MD, and was proud to be a “Woodsman,” as folks from the area call themselves. He attended Kent County High School and played baseball and football in his youth. He remained in Maryland until moving to Central PA, where he began a career in masonry. For more than 18 years he was employed with The Witmer Group, Mt. Joy, where he learned the trade and became familiar with all sorts of masonry work, specializing in commercial projects. Shawn started down a new (and closer to home) path in January of this year, beginning his employment with Anderson Chimney & Masonry Service, New Cumberland. Shawn had a kind heart from day one, and no one was spared a “hello” if he’d pass you on the street. These traits were only a couple of many reasons why his wife, Karen, began dating him in 1995; they were married ten years later. Shawn enjoyed traveling locally with Karen, especially when they were able to visit his family in Maryland. With Karen’s family being in Colorado, a number of memorable cross-country adventures took place throughout the years as well. He was a Philadelphia Eagles fan and followed NASCAR, and he was a car and motorcycle enthusiast throughout life. He and Karen boated on the Susquehanna for several years, and Shawn tried to fish whenever possible. He was a Christian, and the good deeds he performed on a daily basis were evidence of his faith. Shawn always wanted to check on others and make sure people had what they needed. He had a knack for finding those who were in need, making a couple special friends in York who had difficulty finding transportation and support. Shawn had a connection with animals too, and his dog and cat, Tennessee and Lily, will miss their walks and snuggle time with dad.

Surviving Shawn is his wife of 15 years, Karen H. Cannon; his mother, Margaret R. (Boyer) Cannon of Worton, MD; a son, Shawn Cannon Jr. of Harrisburg; granddaughter, Asia Mariah Cannon of MD; siblings, Gary Murray of Worton, MD, Cassandra Harris of Baltimore, MD, Nanette Boyer of Newark, DE, and Rhonda Boyer of Worton, MD; uncles, James Saunders (Cheryl), Leslie “Joe” Brown, Leon Turner (Teresa), Brian Black (Stephanie) and Roger Turner (Dierdre); aunts, Susie Brown, Karen Nicholson (Mark) and Dianna Hale; mother-in-law, Helen Agnes Silipo of Centennial, CO; brothers and sisters-in law, Joseph Silipo, John Silipo (Pam) and Diane Davenport (Scott); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Richard F. Cannon, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Joseph Salvatore Silipo.

Services will be scheduled for a date not yet determined. Please continue to monitor Shawn’s obituary for updated service information.
