Shirley Ann (Weaver) Schneider

July 13, 1935 — September 2, 2020

Shirley Ann Schneider (née Weaver), 85, of New Cumberland, died Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Country Meadows West Shore, Hampden Twp.

Born in Harrisburg on July 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Helen L. (née Peters) Weaver. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother, Lois H. Ulrich of Chesapeake, VA, and Richard A. Weaver of Hershey, PA.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of the former William Penn High School, Harrisburg, where she was a cheerleader. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, where she was active in her Sunday School class and played in the adult handbell choir. She enjoyed working to prepare and serve banquets and helped to make thousands of Easter eggs each spring. She volunteered at the Hillside Elementary School library and the New Cumberland Public Library, as well as the Penn State Hershey Medical Center where she cuddled newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Shirley loved spending time with her family and extended family to celebrate holidays and special events.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Ernest F. Schneider; two sons and a daughter, Kirk F. Schneider and wife, Sarah E. Batchelor of Springfield, Delaware County, Karen A. Schneider of Harrisburg, and Keith A. Schneider of New Cumberland; and two grandchildren, Claire E. Schneider and Paul J. Schneider.

Graveside services will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, with the Rev. Carl F. Peterson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to one of the following: Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland (www.trinityumc.com), the American Lung Association (lung.org), or The Warrior Canine Connection, Boyds, Maryland (warriorcanineconnection.org), whose puppy webcams recently gave Shirley much joy.
