Stephen P. Knowlton

March 15, 1946 — July 27, 2022

Stephen P. Knowlton, 76, of Camp Hill, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, East Pennsboro Township. He was born on March 15, 1946 in Morristown, NJ, to the late Paul B. and Dorothy G. (Vanderhoof) Knowlton.

Stephen was a 1964 graduate of Morristown High School and a member of the Varsity baseball team. He would continue his education at Nyack Missionary College in New York before earning a Master of Education from Shippensburg University. He would utilize his degree, becoming an 11th and 12th grade English teacher at East Pennsboro High School, Enola. He had a passion for sports, be it playing, coaching or watching. Stephen was the track and field coach at East Penn before his retirement in 1999, and he was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles and Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He kept himself in shape by riding his bike with a group of fellow teachers, and he would run in countless marathons and other distance races over the years. He enjoyed traveling and would explore much of the United States; he also visited family across the country, including trips to California, Minnesota and Florida. Above all other destinations, Nova Scotia, Canada, where his paternal grandfather was from, held a special place in his heart.

Stephen encountered challenges later in life; Marfan syndrome would force him to take early retirement from his teaching career, and a lifechanging car accident in 2012 would leave him with debilitating mental and physical injuries and the need for 24-hour assistance. He would reside with his sister, who cared for him for much of the last decade, and his daily schedule consisted of walking and getting exercise, doing jigsaw puzzles, and watching the MLB Network incessantly. A man of faith, his family is comforted in knowing that he’s been freed of his earthly chains and is walking hand-in-hand with his Lord and Savior.

Surviving Stephen are his sisters, Kathleen Logue (Niles) of Mechanicsburg and Nancee Knowlton of Camp Hill; a step-daughter, Casey Chubb (Dan); and nieces and nephews, Karen Spurdle, David Logue, Wendy Logue, Sandra Sanger, Timothy Stridsberg and Christopher Severs.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Stephen’s name to The Christian and Missionary Alliance, One Alliance Place, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, or at www.cmalliance.org.
