Susan P. "Sue" Coakley

July 22, 1933 — August 1, 2020

Susan P. “Sue” Coakley, 87, of The Villages, FL, and formerly of New Cumberland, PA, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 in UF Health – The Villages Hospital. Daughter of the late William E. and Margaretta (Landers) Porter, she was born on July 22, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sue and her husband, Richard “Dick” Coakley, owned and operated Coakley’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in New Cumberland, PA for 35 years. Prior to Coakley’s, they owned and operated the Village Deli, Lemoyne, and owned and managed numerous rental properties.

She was active in her church, Christian Life Assembly, and was a volunteer at Holy Spirit Hospital and the American Cancer Society.

Sue was one strong woman, and lived a very full and energetic life, as anybody who knew her can attest.
She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed bowling and playing golf, and loved her Steelers! She was a dog lover, a great dancer and valued family time together. She also deeply valued her friendships in PA, as well as friends in FL who she spent much time with over the last several years.

Sue was enjoying time on the golf course just days prior to contracting Covid-19. She passed in the hospital after putting up one heluva fight (which is no surprise). Sincere appreciation goes to the Heroes in the hospital who fearlessly and tirelessly worked to assist her. She was ready to join her husband who passed away exactly one year prior.

Sue is survived by her son, Mark R. Coakley (wife, Anita) of Camp Hill, and daughter, Susan J. Sorrells (husband, Ron) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Ben Coakley of Houston, TX and Marissa Coakley of Camp HIll; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Richard Coakley; and a brother and sister, William E. Porter III and Elizabeth J. Bond, both of Pittsburgh.

Due to the pandemic, a private memorial service was held on Friday, August 14 at 11AM. However, it was live-streamed so the public could join in celebrating her life. Please click the "Tribute Wall" tab to access a recording of Sue's service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sue’s name to the charity of your choice.
