Tucker Thompson

The Reverend Arthur Roy Thompson, Jr. (aka Tucker), 79, of Mechanicsburg, died Friday, March 15, 2019 at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital. Son of the late Dorothy (Kellogg) and Arthur R. Thompson, Sr., he was born on June 12, 1939 in Reno, NV.

A member of New Castle Presbytery, Tucker obtained his undergraduate degree from Whitworth University, Spokane, WA; and earned a Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He also held Master of Education and Master of Communications degrees. Ordained August 27, 1967, at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, Seattle, WA; he served churches in Washington State and North Dakota, and was on the staff of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, before joining the staff of the Presbytery of Philadelphia. He then became Communications Director for the Synod of the Trinity, and served as Parish Associate for Camp Hill Presbyterian Church. Returning to the pastorate, he served Faith Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, PA, until his retirement. Tucker then went on to serve as interim pastor at numerous churches including the Market Square Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, PA; the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, MD; the Horseheads Presbyterian Church, NY; the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, DE; and Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, PA. He was instrumental in developing a relationship with the Mission At The Eastward (MATE) in Maine, and for many years participated as crew coordinator and staff liaison for annual intergenerational work groups for several churches. Tucker was a skilled photographer; and as an avid golfer, could remember every shot on every hole of every game he ever played.

Surviving Tucker is his wife of 35 years, Pamela (Burns) Thompson; his children, Keith A. Thompson (Debbie), of Coopersburg, PA; Kym A. McCleerey (Mark), of Reddick, FL; E. Kel Smith (Chris), of Glenside, PA; Gregory S. Smith (Jennifer), of Harrisburg, PA; and Steven W. Smith, of Hummelstown, PA; his grandchildren, Mark Alan, Samantha, Madison, Maisy and Jillian; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Grace.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 25, at Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill. The family will greet guests immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Camp Hill Presbyterian Church - Mission At The Eastward (MATE) fund, and mailed to the church's address.
