Wayne W. Elvidge

Wayne W. Elvidge, 76, of Etters, and formerly of Peckville, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He was the son of the late William J. and Ada G. (Telford) Elvidge, born on March 1, 1945 in Peckville, PA.

Wayne grew up in Peckville, graduating from Blakely High School, and then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton. He pursued a graduate degree as well, obtaining credits from both the University of Scranton and also the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Between his schooling, he served his country in the United States Air Force. After 34 years of employment, Wayne retired from the PA Department of Public Welfare as a human resources director; he was responsible for overseeing employee needs in multiple facilities across Northeastern PA, and most recently, at the state hospital in Clarks Summit. Wayne loved his family, and he and his wife, Maureen, raised their daughters in a loving faith-filled home. He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Dickson City, and having converted to Catholicism himself, he was proud to volunteer with the RCIA program within the church. Upon retirement, Wayne enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his wife, and the two were finally able to act on their affinity for traveling. They both had a passion for experiencing other cultures and learning their unique histories. He kept his mind sharp by reading throughout the years, and by looking at his bookshelf, you could tell his interests were rooted in WWII and European history. Although he had no biological grandchildren, he was proud of being the favorite uncle, adopted uncle, and honorary grandfather to many youngsters within (and outside) the family. He was proud of his girls’ educational and professional accomplishments, and he was thankful for the time he was able to spend with them.

Surviving Wayne are his daughters, Amy E. Elvidge of Mechanicsburg and Alicia K. Elvidge of New Cumberland; a sister, Donna Cacciamani (Paul) of Peckville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Wilcox of Brookhaven; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and a great-nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife more than 41 years, Maureen E. (O’Sullivan) Elvidge.

The first of two public viewings will be held from 5:30-7:30PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. The second public viewing will take place on Saturday morning, June 5, 2021, from 8-10AM at Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Dickson City. Mass of Christian Burial will follow, starting at 10:30AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Dickson City. At the conclusion of mass, family and friends will process to Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, where Wayne will be laid to rest.
