William J. Painter, 79, of Monaghan Twp., Dillsburg, and formerly of Jeanette, died Monday, August 19, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
He retired as a Corrections Officer for S.C.I.C., Camp Hill; a Navy Veteran during the Cuban Missile Crisis; a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg; VFW Post 7530, Lower Allen Twp.; American Legion Post 26, Dillsburg. Mr. Painter was born in Jeannette on May 18, 1940, the son of the late William E. and Josephine A. (Spearnock) Painter. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Evan William Bush, and a sister, Josette Sarsfield.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Cheryl D. (Castine) Painter; a son and his wife, Jeffrey J. and Suzanne Painter of New Cumberland; a daughter, Jenifer J. Bush of Ashburn, VA; four sisters, Luanne Hunter of St. Louis, MO, Rosine Dull of Greensburg, Daria Chapman of Mill Valley, CA, and Denise Hampton of Pinoli, CA; four grandchildren, Adam and Lyndsey Bush, and Jessica and Neil Painter; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with a memorial service following at 11 AM officiated by Deacon David Hall. Private inurnment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp. at the convenience of the family.
