William O Hunter, age 86, born August 31, 1927 in Green Twp., Mercer County (near Jamestown, PA) to the late Wilfred O Hunter and Margaret E Cathcart Hunter died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in his residence in Mt. Union, PA. Mr. Hunter attended Sharpsville PA schools, Allied Institute of Chicago IL, graduated from the School of Business of Williamsport Tech Institute, Williamsport, PA with a major in accounting, Institute of Computer Management, Pittsburg PA, and numerous military schools in programming languages.

Early on, he was self-employed in seasonal work and filled in the off season at local steel mills. He was a veteran of WWII and the Army of Occupation, was recalled to the Korean War Oct 1950, released from active duty Oct 1951, and was honorably discharged in June of 1953. Being unable to return to active duty during the Vietnam war, he returned to the military as a civilian, and worked in Directoriate, Management Information Systems, New Cumberland Army Depot, and later transferred to Fleet Material Support Office, Mechanicsburg PA where he retired as a computer programmer analyst receiving many kudos and awards as a team member taking the Navy into the 21 Century.

After retiring, he delivered pizza for Dominoes at the Middletown PA store for 1 year and at the Bradford PA store for 3 years. He then worked for Doyle Protective Services and Pinkerton Inc, as sight supervisor at Bradford Electronics until they closed the plant.

He was a life member of the New Cumberland VFW, Wormleysburg America Legion, AARP, life member of the NRA, chaplain of Bradford Lodge 749 F&AM, 32nd degree Mason of Coudersport Consistory, and charter member of the PA Lodge of Research.

He is survived by his son Otis Hunter, 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held on Monday Sept 23, 2013 at 1:30pm at Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Lewisberry.
