Alex "Big Al" Calhoun

February 10, 1970 — June 24, 2023

Fairview Twp.

Alex "Big Al" Calhoun of Fairview Twp., died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, in New Cumberland, PA at the age of 53.

Alex is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Susan M. (Rankin) of 22 years, two sons, Michael Bollmann and Brian Bollmann (fiancée Priyanka Munjal), his father and wife, Andrew and Kathy Calhoun, his brother A. Benjamin Calhoun and his sister, Angela Calhoun Tennis (Spouse Skip Tennis), niece Bonnie Calhoun and his faithful companion, Bruiser. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie-Mae Bantz and her husband, Jim Bantz, both sets of grandparents and uncles and aunt.

Alex was born on February 10, 1970, in East Pennsboro Township.  He graduated from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School and served his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard while stationed in Alaska.  Alex was very patriotic. He loved the United States of America, and he would tell you if you were flying the American Flag wrong. He wanted every flag treated with the respect it deserved.

Alex was in the transportation industry for over 30 years. He worked for Overnight, bought by UPS Freight, which is now owned by T Force.  He took great pride in driving the big rigs and drove more than 2 million miles. Throughout his long career, he forged many friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Alex was passionate about boating. He was truly a river rat. Alex spent many hours in the Juniata and Susquehanna Rivers and Lake Raystown.  Not only did he drive boats, but he also water skied, rafted and was drug behind boats too numerous to count. (We won't mention that time he blew an engine in his speed boat just as the race started.)

In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, turning a wrench, being on or near the water and his dog, Bruiser.

His wife and family will remember him for his dry wit, big heart, and great mechanical ability. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be Friday, June 30th from 1:30 to 3 PM, with the service officiated by Pastor Allen Schwarz beginning at 3 pm at the Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1303 Bridge Street, New Cumberland.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
