Alvin D. Arvey

Alvin “Al” D. Arvey, 80, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on August 26, 2026. Born on May 17, 1946, in Shamokin, PA, to the late Alvin F. and Margaret (Romberger) Arvey. Al was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Al was a true Renaissance man whose talents and interests were as varied as they were remarkable. As a self-employed entrepreneur, he was known for his creative handyman skills, capable of crafting or repairing just about anything. His passion for woodworking transformed ideas into beautiful creations, and his belief that "if you have the right tools, you can do anything" inspired many around him to pursue their own projects with confidence.

Beyond his craftsmanship, Al enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid geocacher, a hobby he pursued with enthusiasm, always seeking adventure and new experiences. His dedication didn't stop there; he served in the Army Reserves from 1967 to 1995, achieving the rank of Sergeant, a testament to his commitment to service. 

He was a source of unwavering support for his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda Arvey; his cherished son, Gregory Arvey; stepson, Mason and Matthew Salisbury; stepdaughter, Kirsten Salisbury-Czap; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Arvey; sister, Sandra Gaughan; and his loving dog, Lilly. His warmth and encouragement were foundational to their successes, instilling in them the courage to pursue their dreams.

In a tribute written by his stepson, Mason, it is said, "I knew an amazing person! His name was Al Arvey. I felt like he could do anything he set his mind to. He taught me so much. I choose to celebrate his life, and I thank God that he was a part of mine." 

Services will be held privately at the family’s convenience.
