New Cumberland

Andrew J. Mehalko, 90, of New Cumberland passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Celebration Villa of Dillsburg. He was born on December 25, 1934, to the late Peter and Sophie (Drebot) Mehalko on the family farm in Williamstown. He graduated from Williamstown High School in 1953 where he was known for his athleticism in football and baseball.  He kept in touch with his many friends by attending frequent reunions. He recently reminisced he had graduated 72 years ago.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 where he was selected to be in a special security division. His longest assignment was in Thule, Greenland, where he was awarded the "Knights of the Blue Nose" for serving north of the Arctic Circle.

Once discharged, he married the girl next door, Josephine Lucas, and he was faithful to her until her death in 2019. They had been married for 59 years. He was a dedicated employee for 40 years of the Rite Aid Corporation where he was admired by coworkers and executives. He would get to work at 3 a.m. and be home for after school events like baseball, track, and marching band.

He was a member of St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church Harrisburg and, most recently, St. Theresa Parish in New Cumberland.

Andy was an avid sports fan following the Phillies, Yankees, Cleveland Browns, and Penn State. In retirement, he and Josephine took day trips, visited grandkids, and enjoyed each other’s company. He also built model vehicles and painted pictures.

He is preceded in death by his wife Josephine. He is survived by his son, Andrew D. Mehalko (Kate) of York Haven; daughters, Christine Grossnickel (Joe) of Germantown, MD and Dianne Kirsch (Doug) of Mechanicsburg; sister, Patricia Coleman (John) of FL; grandchildren, Dane, Riley, and Haley Mehalko; Jared and Chase Grossnickel; Bryce, Gavin, and Chance Kirsch.

Viewing will be from 9:30am to 10:30am Wednesday, July 9th at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Following the Mass, committal services will be held at Rolling Green Cemetery.
