Arthur G. Bruaw, Jr., 94, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Chambersburg WellSpan Hospital. Born on August 18, 1931, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Violet E. (Nissley) and Arthur G. Bruaw, Sr.
Art was a 1950 graduate of the former Carson Long Military Academy, New Bloomfield, where he was an expert shooter on the rifle team. He would go on to prep school at the former Pennsylvania Military College and ultimately earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Widener University. Art also served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
His professional career started with Atlantic Refining Co. (ARCO) in Camp Hill, where he worked for nearly a decade before moving to Franklin County. With his eyes on purchasing a distributorship, he would take over E.C. Barnes, Inc. in St. Thomas; he owned and operated the firm from 1967-2012.
Art was a longtime member of the West Shore Country Club, Camp Hill, and he thoroughly enjoyed bringing people together. He especially looked forward to family reunions held annually each summer.
Imperfect yet unwavering, his loyalty was a constant through life’s ups and downs. He valued his friends and family, and he was reliable and generous to those around him when it mattered most. There is comfort in knowing that he’s reunited with his late wife, Fay—the two celebrated 53 years of marriage just a month prior to her passing in 2009. Known for his unceasing drive and determination throughout life, may he now find everlasting peace.
A prominent businessman, Art would own and operate E.C. Barnes, a mid-state oil company, from 1967 until 2012. Surviving are his children, Michael H. Bruaw II and Karen L. Schock; grandchildren, Kara L. Schock, and Travis and Tyler Schock; as well as several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fay (Brunner) Bruaw.
A public viewing will be held from 6-8PM on Thursday, October 9 at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Art’s name to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
