Barbara Ann Berkoben, 78, of Etters, Newberry Township, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 19, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Born June 23, 1947, Barb was a graduate of St. George’sCatholic School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed graduate studies through the University of Pennsylvania. Barb went on to build a respected career as a Human Resources Analyst with the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Administration, from which she retired.
A faithful and devout woman, she was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish. Barb had a gift for making life fun. She was a world-class shopper and lover of all things Pittsburgh, her home town.
Her greatest joy was her family. Nothing meant more to Barb than being a Grammy, a wife, and a dog mom. She adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment with them. She loved snow birding in Myrtle Beach, SC with the love of her life, “Bobby” and she had a special place in her heart for her beloved Golden Retrievers, Arnie, Palmer, and Bubba. All who knew Barb were treated like family and were recipients of her boundless generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Anna (Hankoski) Burdelski, and by her brothers, Robert and Albert Burdelski.
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Robert J. Berkoben; her children, Karina D. Reed (Jason) of Lebanon and Kevin S. Betz (Kimberly) of Philipsburg; stepchildren, Jim R. Berkoben (Michelle) of Mickleton, NJ and Lisa Orr (Jeffrey) of Boiling Springs; her brother, Kenneth Burdelski of Pittsburgh; and her cherished grandchildren Ashley, Briana, Katie, Ally, Mallory, Jack, Natalie, and Kevin “KP.”
A viewing will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Parthemore Funeral Home, with a Scripture Service at 3:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Committalwill follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Afterward, all are warmly invited to join the family for a luncheon to celebrate Barb’s life, share stories, and remember a woman who never forgot where she came from and never stopped loving the people around her.
