Bernice Langlotz Ryder, born July 14, 1927, in Harrisburg, PA, was the youngest daughter of John William Langlotz III and Sara Emma (Hocker) Langlotz. Bernice entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
She graduated from Harrisburg's John Harris High School in 1945 at which time she and her older sister Evelyn traveled to Washington D.C. where they got a job at the Pentagon. Upon returning to Harrisburg, she got a job at Ryder's Dairy in Lemoyne. It was there that she met Charlie who would become her husband of 63 years before his passing in 2013.
Bernice was a "city" girl, but she and Charlie moved to the farm in 1952 after their April 1, 1950 wedding day. Initially she needed to overcome the challenges of no phone, dirt roads, and being 45 minutes from family. After the 1-year probation period she had given Charlie to deal with the new challenges she faced, she was convinced to stay because she had learned to love the wonder of God's creation through the beauty of nature. It was here that Bernice and Charlie raised their three children. Charlene Ryder Shank (Bob) of Dover, PA, Gary Ryder of Dover PA, and Greg Ryder, of Lewisberry, PA. Bernice is also survived by her two grandsons Stephen Ryder of Seattle, WA and Michael Ryder of Austin, TX.
Bernice was a long-time member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church. Bernice was also a dedicated teacher for approximately 45 years at the CHPC Nursery School. She had a God given skill to work with pre-school age children. Her Passion for preparing the "kids" socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually for their formal education years was a very strong driving force in her life. It is with this thought that her family wishes that you might help carry on this passion by making a donation that will give scholarships to students needing financial tuition assistance and help provide things the pre-school might need to enhance the learning of its' young students.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that any donations may be sent to Camp Hill Presbyterian Church Nursery School.
