Carlene Mary Bengel

Carlene Mary Bengel, 96, of Carlisle, formerly of Mechanicsburg and Camp Hill, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle.

Born November 3, 1929, in Lewisberry, Carlene was the daughter of the late Carl Franklin and Miriam Ruth (Stoneseifer) Hostetter. She grew up in New Cumberland and Harrisburg and graduated from the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg in 1947.

Throughout her career, Carlene worked as an administrative assistant for several organizations, including AMP, Inc., in Harrisburg; ARKO/Atlantic Richfield in Princeton, New Jersey; Charles T. Main Engineering Firm in Boston; Wellesley College in Massachusetts; and AARP in Camp Hill. She retired from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers.

Over the years, Carlene made her home in New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts before returning to Central Pennsylvania. She was a member of Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren and enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, music, and travel. She also cherished the many friendships she developed throughout her life. In her younger years, she especially loved dancing and was an enthusiastic jitterbugger.

Carlene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Bengel; her brother, Carl Hostetter; and her sister, Miriam Craig.

She is survived by her son, David Bengel (Annie) of Campton, New Hampshire; her daughter, Michele Livingston (Barry) of Camp Hill; her grandchildren, Jason of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Elizabeth of Buffalo, New York; and her great-grandchildren, Graham, Reid, Alexander, and Sienna.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 19, at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
