Carol J. (Martin) Rodgers, 81, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Providence Place Senior Living, Lancaster. Born on October 7, 1943, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Jeanne E. (Larimer) Martin.
Carol grew up in Western Pennsylvania and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before earning her bachelor’s degree at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. She later moved to South Central PA, where she began teaching World Cultures at Cedar Cliff High School. It was there she met her future husband, Cornelius—fondly known as “Con”—a fellow teacher. Eventually, Carol transitioned into the healthcare field, working as a customer service technician at Capital Blue Cross, first in Camp Hill and later in Harrisburg.
A devoted supporter of local libraries and an animal lover at heart, she especially adored her golden retriever, Meggie. Carol and Con spent most of their married life in New Cumberland, where she took pride in maintaining an immaculate home. Her family takes comfort in knowing she and Con are now together again.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Amy Beth MacHenry and husband, Stephen, of New Holland, PA; a son, Stephen Douglas Rodgers and partner, Michael Moran, of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Scott Michael and Emily Jeanne MacHenry; a sister, Suzanne Ligons; stepbrother, Doug Smith; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Cornelius A. “Con” Rodgers (d. 2022); and sister, Audrey Schreckengaust (d. 2018).
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Carol will be laid to rest with her husband in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Carol’s name to the Cumberland County Library System.
