Caroline (Miller) Erney

December 25, 1926 — April 18, 2024

Mechanicsburg, PA

Caroline (Miller) Erney, affectionately known as “Cappi,” passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on April 18, 2024. She was married to Edwin “Ed” Erney of New Cumberland who preceded her in death.

The daughter of the late Dr. Richard J. Miller and Katherine (Fahnestock) Miller, she was born in Harrisburg, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Miller; a sister, Mary K. (Miller) Fager (and her husband, Charles); and a stepson, David Erney.

Surviving are her sons, William F. Stump of Harrisburg, Robert J. Sump (Susan) of Mount Union, and David R. Stump (Susan) of Mechanicsburg; stepchildren, Joan Erney, Leslie Erney Pankey (Dan) and Roxanne Knisley (Sam); stepdaughter-in-law, Penny Erney; grandchildren, Danielle Elliott (Adam), Hannah Bryson (Bill), Brittany Erney-Munoz (Christian), Joshua Erney (Allie) and Brayton Pankey; and nieces and nephews, Sue Kramer (Fred), Mary Jenzik (Chuck), Charlie Fager (Yvonne), Tim Fager, and Carol and Kate Rupp.

God blessed Caroline with three sons, and she’d single-handedly raise them beginning when they were ages 8 and younger. She taught art at Camp Hill High School for many years and played flute in the Harrisburg Symphony (as well as other settings). Cappi also worked part time as a seamstress for Singers in the Camp Hill Shopping Center.

Upon retirement, she created a prosperous business with her dry point etchings. She created, printed, matted, and framed all her creations. Her husband, Ed, became the consummate business partner and “muscle,” traveling with her from one art show to the next. The two would move from their 2nd Street Home in Harrisburg to Messiah Lifeways as they aged, enjoying new friendships along the way.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 1-4pm at the Gathering Place at Table Life Church, New Cumberland. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Emmanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Caroline’s name to the Art of Recycle, Ephrata (www.artofrecycle.org).
