Charles E. Snyder, Jr.

Charles E. Snyder Jr., 58, of Fairview Twp., Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was a graduate of Elizabethtown College, Shippensburg University, and the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, KY.
Chief Snyder served the residents of Lower Allen Twp. Police Dept. from 1976 until his retirement in 2007. During his tenure with the township, Chief Snyder held the ranks of Detective, Detective Corporal, and Lieutenant before assuming the position of Chief of Police in 1996. He was the agency’s first accreditation manager and CEO for the first CLEA Accreditation Award. Chief Snyder was active with the PA Police Accreditation Coalition and was a former CALEA and PLEAC Assessor. After retiring from the police dept., he was employed by CDI Infrastructure, Harrisburg. Most recently, he worked with the Judicial Conduct Board as an Investigator. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #76, a life member of the International Assn. of the Chiefs of Police; and a member of the Central PA Chiefs of Police Assn.
He was born on March 21, 1955, in Camp Hill, the son of Charles E. Sr. and Betty J. (Wolfe) Snyder of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents, surviving are his wife of 28 years, Lisa P. (Prowell) Snyder; a son, Kyle G. of Philadelphia; five sisters, Nancy Snyder of West Roxbury, MA, Debbie Callahan of Carlisle, Linda Wright of Carlisle, Lori Grim of Glenmore and Judy Rabedeau of New Cumberland; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 863 Lewisberry Road, Lewisberry, with the Rev. Timothy L. Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp.
Viewing will be held 4 -7 PM Monday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA (www.hospiceofcentralpa.org), 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
