Dale Eugene Weller

October 3, 1932 — September 3, 2025

Harrisburg

Dale Eugene Weller, 92, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, with family by his side. He was born on October 3, 1932, in Harrisburg, to the late William I. and Stella R. (Jackson) Weller.

A 1950 graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg, he proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy as a radarman on the U.S.S. Midway. He went on to study aeronautical engineering at Penn State University’s main campus before beginning a long career with the federal government. After a brief time at the former New Cumberland Army Depot, he joined the Navy Ships Parts Control Center (SPCC) at the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, retiring as a systems analyst after nearly four decades of employment.

Dale was past president and a longtime member of the local AFGE, where he also managed the union’s softball team. He was a lifelong Phillies fan, a pinball enthusiast, a lover of trains, and he bowled in multiple leagues. He enjoyed road biking around the area, though he’d tell you his favorite ride was the one he shared with his son, biking from Cooperstown, NY, back home to Harrisburg.

He and his wife, Barb, built a strong marriage and created a loving home. He planned family trips to Brigantine Beach, NJ, and to visit relatives in Indiana. One especially memorable trek took the family all the way to Nova Scotia to chase the solar eclipse. Later in life, Dale enjoyed two unforgettable trips to Ireland.

He was known for his easygoing nature, his dependable one-liners, and his meticulous habit of notetaking. Self-taught on the organ, he also sang in his church choir and served as a lector, living his faith quietly and consistently in all aspects of life. With social circles on both the East and West Shore, Dale seemed to know everyone, but family came first for him—always.

Surviving Dale are his children, Marlene Weller Cosner (husband, Lyle) of Harrisburg and Craig Weller (wife, Jennifer) of Linglestown; grandchildren, Allison and Brandon; a niece, Terri Weller Godwin; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews from his wife’s side of the family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Ann (Sednek) Weller (d. 2022); and five siblings, William “Bill”, Lois, Gloria, Edward, and Lee.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 10AM until Mass of Christian Burial begins at 12PM in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, Harrisburg. Interment will take place immediately following mass in Shoops Cemetery Garden of Rest, located on the 4100 block of Locust Lane, Colonial Park. After the committal, friends and family are invited for light refreshments at Colonial Park Fire Company (located less than a mile from the cemetery).

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Dale’s name to any animal rescue or no-kill shelter of your choice.
