Darla A. Young, 81, of Upper Allen Twp., Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, January 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

She retired as the Office Manager at the former Engle Business Equipment, Mechanicsburg, and in earlier years worked for the federal government as a civilian with a top secret clearance. She was a dedicated, founding member of the new Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Lewisberry. Her passions were playing bingo with great friends, cooking and hosting family gatherings, and her strong faith in the belief of miracles.

Born on Monday, October 23, 1939, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Clair C. and Sara T. (Mowery) Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua J. Melick and her sister, Patsy R. Smith.

Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, William J. Young; two daughters and a son, Cheryl D. Melick and her husband, Randall A. of Mechanicsburg, Karen R. Rider of Mechanicsburg, and Kevin D. Young of New Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Danielle, Brittani, Tiffany, Briana, Dylan and Dustin; two great grandchildren, Jadyn and Izabella; a brother, Robert C. Barnett of Milroy; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Services will be private, with burial in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, (https://www.heart.org), 4250 Crums Mill Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112, on behalf of her and Joshua.
