David Michael Bohl, (Mike) a beloved educator and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on January 27, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Frederika and Daniel Bohl, Mike lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication. He resided in New Cumberland, PA, where he made a lasting impact on his community through his work in education.
Mike graduated from Cedar Cliff High School in 1960 then went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from West Chester University in 1964, where his love for sports flourished. He passionately served as a health and physical education teacher and coach for the Susquehanna Township School District, inspiring countless students to lead active and healthy lives. He devoted two and a half decades to coaching football, basketball, tennis, and cross country at the junior and senior high schools of Susquehanna Township. Mike was an avid athlete throughout his life, playing basketball at the YMCA until the age of 65 and enjoying pickleball until his health concerns arose. His love of sports took root early, playing Little League through American Legion baseball in Lemoyne and starring in football, basketball, and baseball at the high school level. He carried that athleticism into college, where he continued to play football. He and Pennie were among a founding group of parents who chartered the New Cumberland Girls' Softball Association, and Mike had the joy of coaching his daughter in the sport for nearly a decade. After retiring from teaching, Mike embarked on a second career as a truck driver with Roadway Express, a role he embraced for twenty-five years. He then brought his two careers full circle by teaching CDL licensing courses at Harrisburg Area Community College, where he continued to work until just a few months ago.
A resident of the West Shore area his entire life, Mike grew up on the river. A setting that fueled his love for water activities. He cherished joyful days spent with his family on his boat and jet skis at City Island, Long Level and Raystown Lake, creating a deep connection with nature and the water. Mike was especially proud of his role as a grandfather, passionately following the education, activities and sports endeavors of his grandchildren, Kenzie and Riley Dohner, and instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.
Mike and his loving wife, Pennie, to whom he was married for 61 wonderful years, shared many adventures together. Their travels took them across the US and around the world. North Carolina, San Francisco, Alaska, and Italy were among his favorite destinations, each holding treasured memories that family and friends will carry with them always. Mike had a deep and abiding love for animals, particularly dogs, a devotion that touched the hearts of all who knew him and was passed on to every member of his family. Throughout his life, six beloved canine companions held a special place in his heart and home.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Pennie (Clements) Bohl; his loving daughter, Nikki Dohner (Jamey Gildea); his beloved grandchildren, Kenzie Dohner (Eric Medes) and Riley Dohner (Rachel Sledjeski); his brother, Steven Bohl as well as a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Bohl. His warm-hearted presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
There will be a visitation from 2-4pm on Friday May 8th, 2026, in the chapel of Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070 to celebrate Mike's remarkable life.
