David G. Stouffer, Sr.

January 4, 1932 — May 11, 2024

Mechanicsburg, PA

David Guyer Stouffer Sr., 92, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at UPMC West Shore Hospital, with family by his side. He was the son of the late George and Marie Stouffer, born on January 4, 1932 in Mercersburg.

A 1950 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, Dave would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Army before entering the private sector. He worked and retired from Bethlehem Steel, Steelton, after spending 35+ years as a parts man in the auto shop. Many of those years also consisted of part-time work at Davis Bottling Company (Canada Dry distributor) in Harrisburg.

He was a family man, raising his kids with his first wife, Dorcasanne (Woodward) Stouffer, and enjoying 47 years of marriage before her passing in 1999. He would meet and then marry his second wife, Cathie (Betz) Stouffer, in 2008. Unsurprisingly, he thought of her children and their families as his own, enjoying these final years of life with an ever-growing circle.

He enjoyed fishing, and he would often relax on the front porch with a beer in-hand and a cigar in his mouth. He and Cathie enjoyed evenings out to dinner, and he was always interested in keeping up with his grandchildren’s lives. Fishing with his boys in New York or Ocean City, MD, were highlights in Dave’s life. He was a member of both the Mechanicsburg and New Cumberland American Legions, and he was a lifetime member of the Lower Allen VFW Post 7530. Dave had a big heart, and he made it a point to step up and care for his stepdaughter who fought a difficult battle with cancer seven years ago. He will be missed by many.

Surviving Dave is his wife of 16 years, Cathie Stouffer; sons, David Stouffer, Jr. (Cheri) of Duncannon, Wayne Stouffer (Sue) of Harrisburg, and Steven Stouffer (Trudy) of Lewisberry; stepchildren, Jimmy Priar (Stephanie), Elizabeth Foote (Dean), Susie Mustard (John), and Chris Priar (Mel); a daughter-in-law, Deanna Stouffer; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorcasanne (Woodward) Stouffer; a son, Jeffrey Stouffer; and stepdaughter, Michelle Priar.

A public funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A public viewing will take place from 10AM until services begin in the funeral home. Following the funeral, a procession will depart for Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with committal at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in David’s name to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
