Dean Richard Jury, 82, of New Cumberland died Friday August 28 of complications of stroke and polio. Dean was born June 18, 1944 in Millersburg to the late Richard P. and Pauline E. Jury.
He grew up in Millersburg, graduated from Millersburg Area High School and Gettysburg College. He worked over 35 years for the state as a personnel manager, first with the Department of Forest and Waters, then DER and DEP. Service to his community was the center of his life. He joined the NCFD when he moved to New Cumberland, ultimately serving as its President for over 20 years. He was very active in his church, first at Zion Lutheran in Harrisburg where he led Sunday School, played piano, and was Council President multiple times. Then at Grace Lutheran in Camp Hill where he was an usher, lector, and served on the Endowment Committee.
In 1970 he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Yarnall. They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage together. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; children Karen, Christopher, and Timothy; dalmatian Cinder; brother Neil (Geneva); sister Brenda Fineburg; 5 nieces, and 4 nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 5 from 9am - 11am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill. A memorial service, presided over by Pastor Chad Butz, will begin at 11am with a luncheon at the church following.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the New Cumberland Fire Department and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
