Delores "Dolly" Spink

Nov 24, 1932 — Oct 1, 2026

New Cumberland

Delores J. “Dolly” Spink, 93, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 1, 2026. She was born on November 24, 1932, in Duboistown, to the late Orville Gordner and Mildred (Roller) Billings.

Dolly was a hard worker throughout her life, with a knack for making every dollar count. She spent nearly 30 years as a floor manager at Cameron Dress Company in Harrisburg, saving diligently toward the dream she shared with her late husband, Don: owning their own business.

The two met at an American Legion dance in Steelton while Dolly was working at the dress company and Don at the steel mill. Through hard work and saving every penny, they eventually purchased their first truck, laying the foundation for a successful freight business off the Lewisberry Road exit of I-83. That single truck grew into a fleet, with Don handling the driving and maintenance and Dolly managing dispatch, logistics, and daily operations. Together, they made quite a team. Dolly became so skilled at dispatching that she also coordinated work for several other trucking companies in the area.

Sweet as pie and slight in stature, Dolly was sometimes underestimated—until it came time to negotiate. She could drive a hard bargain in business, in marriage, and especially at yard sales. In later years, Don patiently chauffeured her from one bargain-hunting stop to the next, and their granddaughters fondly remember joining them on many of those adventures.

As a couple, they enjoyed camping and boating, especially at Raystown Lake, and valued family above all else. Dolly treasured trips made to Lycoming County to visit her sisters and extended family. At their home in Lewisberry, Dolly was the force behind planting oodles of trees, with Don heading up the labor department.

Less than a month and a half after Don’s passing, Dolly has joined her partner and best friend in eternity. Though her family will miss her dearly, they find comfort and happiness in knowing the two are together again.

Surviving Dolly is her daughter-in-law, Karen Sandnes; granddaughters, Emily Smith (Evan Lee) and Rachel McKay (Adam McKay), both of Camp Hill; great-granddaughters, Melina Lee, Alice Dykstra (James Dykstra), Hazel Larssen (Jonah Larssen), and Adeline Guerra; a great-great-grandson, Glen Dykstra; and sisters, Ethel Peters and Evelyn Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Donald F. “Dut” Spink (d. 2026); her son, Doyle Kenneth Smith, Jr.; and siblings, Bruce Gordner, Dorothy Magent and Shirley Schumaker.

A public graveside service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry.
