Doris J. “Doll” Barber, 92 of Mechanicsburg died Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Messiah Lifeways, Upper Allen Twp.
She was retired from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. She was a 1948 graduate of New Cumberland High School. An Army wife and mother, she traveled around the US and world supporting her family. In her eighties she wrote a memoir of her life mainly for her family but which drew the interest of others, including some historical societies.
She was born August 28, 1930 in Royalton to the late Clayton E. and Emma Jane (Ridley) Tennis, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey L. Barber, daughter, Joanne Lee Quesenberry, and siblings, Betty Jane Tennis, Mildred Louise “Sis” Rudy, and Clayton E. “Buzz” Tennis, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Michael Aubrey Barber (Elana) of Seattle, WA; daughter, Donna Jean Kepner (Richard) of Lewisberry; grandchildren, Heather Joanne Donato of Hershey, Rebecca Tavenor Payne (Derek) of Mechanicsburg, Amanda Michelle Quesenberry of Mechanicsburg, David Andrew Quesenberry (Anna) of Edmonds, WA, and Whitney Shannon Zarbough (Griffin) of Clayton, NC; greatgrandchildren, Crystal (Dylan), Parker, Jody, Aubrey, Logan, Ellis, Riley, Raphael, and Alexis; and great-great granddaughters, Leah and Audrey; brother-in-law, Stewart Rudy; sister-in-law, Fran Tennis, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10am until funeral services at 11am Friday, November 11, 2022 at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
