Dorothy Anne Dixon

Dorothy Anne Dixon, lovingly known as "Anne," passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 26, 1942, in Hagerstown, MD, to the late John and Dorothy (McCoy) Rutherford. 

Anne graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1960 and continued her education at Hagerstown Community College, later attending Towson State University. In her professional life, she made a significant impact as a commercial underwriter for Nationwide Insurance.

A passionate supporter of her family's endeavors, Anne cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, enthusiastically attending their sports events, cheerleading performances, musicals, and more. Known for her independence and sassy wit, Anne was a trusted confidante, always ready to listen without judgment. Her generous spirit meant that she was always there to lend a hand to those in need.

Anne loved vacationing with her family at the Outer Banks, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. Her legacy of love and encouragement will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. 

Anne was a proud mother to her two daughters, Karen (Scott) Heisey and Kathleen (Scott) Lesh. Her family continued to flourish with the addition of her adoring grandchildren-Ashley (Ed Rodriguez) Heisey, Tyler (Jenna) Heisey, and Hayley (Russell Lloyd) Lesh. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Bella Rodriguez, Jackson Rodriguez, Cain Rodriguez, and Sienna Rodriguez; her sisters, Joan Stremmel and Susan Shirley; brother, Tim (Laura) Rutherford; nieces, Angela Capriolo, Natalie Reel, Gina Sharpe, Katie Engle, and Kelsey Reybold; and nephew, Larry Shirley. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents by her brother, Jack Rutherford in 2010.

In keeping with Anne's wishes, services will be held privately at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Hospice of Central PA.
