Edgar G. Scoones died January 17, 2012 in Palmyra, PA. Gerry was born in Clinton, NY in 1921, one of six children of Sara Lenahan and Arthur Scoones. He attended aeronautical engineering school in California and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a navigator, completing 36 missions over Germany and Czechoslovakia during WWII and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Mary Caroline Mickey Miller and settled in Buffalo, NY starting his long career with Republic Steel. Concurrent with his work, he attended the University of Buffalo and earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

He is survived by a brother, William Scoones of Ithaca New York, and four children, Karen Paris (Frank) of Hummelstown, PA, Janet Dewart (William) of Rochester, NY, Eric Scoones (Kathleen) of London, UK and Lawrence Scoones (Deanna) of New York City. He had eight grandchildren, Benjamin Paris, Gregory Paris, Katherine Pickens, Elizabeth Dewart, Evan Dewart, Neal Scoones, Caroline Scoones, and David Scoones. Gerry was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ella Pickens and Sophie Scoones.

Gerry was active in the following community groups: he was a founding member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society of Western New York, the VFW in Orchard Park, the American Legion, Orchard Park, the Air Force Reserve, the 381st Bomb Group Association, the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Nativity of our Lord Church, Serra International, the Republic Steel Superintendents Club, the University of Buffalo Alumni, the Association of Iron Steel Engineers, the Snowbelt Toastmasters Club, the Jaycees of Buffalo, Orchard Park Little League, Hickory Hill Swim Club, Orchard Park Country Club, the Eden Rod and Gun Club, and Boy Scout Troop 519. He was also an honorary member of the Orchard Park Retired Teachers Association.

Gerry loved people and was known for his keen wit, his organizational skills, his joie de vivre, and his love of community and family. A memorial Mass and gathering will be held in his honor at a future date in Orchard Park, NY.
