Elaine C. Machamer

Elaine C. Machamer (Sue) passed away on Dec. 13, 2025 at Ecumenical Retirement Community with her daughter, Karen, by her side. Born April 2, 1932 in Williamstown, PA, she was the daughter of Daniel Odell and Sara (Duenger) Cooper. Elaine married the love of her life, Ben Earl Machamer, Nov. 7, 1953. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2012. She was blessed with three children, Dee Fran Smith, wife of Frank Smith of Dover, PA, Karen Dell Machamer, wife of Abimael Caraballo of Harrisburg, and Jay Machamer of Portland, OR.

Elaine graduated from Williamstown H.S. in 1950. She was employed as a secretary to Donald B. Stabler of Stabler Construction for several years, raised her three children, then went to work as a secretary in the Counseling Office at Harrisburg High School until 1997. She had a special connection and love for teenagers.

Elaine was of the Christian faith. She was a member of the Harris Towne Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association since 1978. She served as their Scholarship Committee Chairman for many years. She was chosen their “Woman of the Year” in 2001 and again in 2016. She was a member of the Dauphin County Chapter of the PA Assoc. of Retired Teachers since 1997.

Elaine enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She painted, crocheted, knitted, embroidered, sewed, and crafted her own greeting cards. She loved to travel, play games and hosted a domino group each week in her home. Her greatest joy was her family. When able, she loved to cook and bake for these special people in her life.

In addition to her three children and spouses, she is survived by four grandchildren, Thomas and Joseph Knupp of Harrisburg, Melissa Smith, Marc Smith (Tammy), one great grandchild, Abi (Trevor) and two great greats, Levi and Lainey. She was preceded in death by five siblings. Joe was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, Betty McCarthy, Daniel, Donald, and Marlin, and one great grandson, Garrett Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at Parthemore Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10 AM. She will be reunited with her husband, Ben at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
