Elaine G. Ocamb

August 11, 1934 — November 25, 2025

Mechanicsburg, PA

Elaine G. Ocamb, 91, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Hampden Township. Born August 11, 1934, in McAlevys Fort, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Charlotte (Bigelow) Gibboney.

A 1952 graduate of Huntingdon High School, Elaine had a remarkable gift for mathematics and was awarded the Math Medal her senior year. She finished high school on a Friday and, by the following Monday, began her career as a bookkeeper in the historic Old Main building at Penn State. During her time with the university, she met the love of her life, Leland, a Lieutenant in the Navy, and she became a Navy wife when they married in 1955. In the early 1960s, they moved to the Harrisburg area to raise their family and became active members of Trinity Church in New Cumberland.

While devoted to her home and children, Elaine continued to pursue her education by taking courses at HACC and graduated with honors when she earned her degree in Mathematics from Messiah College. Completing her studies part-time over nearly a decade, she proudly finished her final year with her daughter enrolled as a freshman at the same school. Elaine spent a short period as a substitute teacher before joining the full-time faculty at Faith Tabernacle School in Harrisburg. She also served Trinity Church as financial secretary, continuing in that role long after her teaching years.

Elaine found joy in teaching Sunday School, cherished family vacations to Ocean City, New Jersey, and later discovered a love for flower arranging. She was known for her warm smile and the ease with which she made others feel welcome. Gentle, nurturing, and endlessly kind, she leaves behind a legacy of love and grace that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Surviving Elaine are her children, Glenn B. Ocamb and Janice E. Ocamb; a granddaughter, Ashley Lyn Palmer (husband, Joshua); brother, Frank Gibboney; brother-in-law, Hubert Ocamb (wife, Elaine); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Leland J. Ocamb; a daughter-in-law, Vicky Z. Ocamb; sister, Florence Stickler; and a sister-in-law, Adrena Gibboney.

A public viewing will take place from 9:30AM until a funeral service begins at 10:30AM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Trinity Church of New Cumberland. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Elaine’s name to her church: Trinity Church of New Cumberland, 415 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
