Elizabeth "Libby" E. McDermott

Elizabeth “Libby” E. McDermott, 74, of New Cumberland died Saturday, July 12, 2025 at UPMC West Shore Hospital, Hampden Twp.

She was born April 10, 1951 in Susquehanna, PA to the late James R. and Mary Catherine (Dooley) Eagan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William Eagan, Thomas Eagan, Tina Elias, Eileen Cain, Joni Eagan, and James Eagan.

She is survived by her husband, James (Jim) L. McDermott; sons, Mike J. McDermott (Jessi) and Christopher L. McDermott (Dani) both of New Cumberland; grandchildren, A.J., Katie, Jack, and Jane; sisters, Cathy Malone of New Cumberland and Dorothy Firestone of Halifax; and brother, Dan Eagan (Kate) of Lancaster.

A 1968 graduate of Trinity High School, she had several occupations over the years, highlights were School Secretary at St. Theresa School and PA Office of Attorney General Asset Forfeiture Division. She was also a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland.

Libby enjoyed gardening and had beautiful gardens filled with her favorite flowers and plants. She met many lovely people in her garden chat rooms. She loved arranging flowers, baking, bowling, and anything related to art. Her work with the Harrisburg Community Theatre as propmaster was a great joy to her for over 20 years. She was very proud of her beautiful collection of vintage dresses and gowns and loved sharing them. She was also quick to offer a “wrap” any time you felt a chill.

She was so proud of her beautiful family and reminded us every chance she got. She was a wonderful and loving friend, too, and all who knew her were better for having had her in our lives.

She will be missed every day but we take comfort in knowing she'll be with us always.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Thursday, July 17th at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Committal will follow at 2:30pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
