Genie M. Golding, 79, of Mechanicsburg died Monday, November 3, 2025, at Arden Courts at Susquehanna.
After her graduation from Mountain State Business College, she worked as a Legal Secretary for law firms in Parkersburg, WV, and Pensacola, FL. After she started her family, she became a full-time homemaker. When her family was grown, she channeled her love for children into working with special needs students as a Classroom Assistant for the Westmoreland County Intermediate Unit. She also volunteered throughout her life at her church and for such organizations as the League of Women Voters.
Genie loved to sew and make dresses for her daughters and bibs, blankets, and other items for her grandchildren and friends’ newborns. They would include a tag embroidered “Handmade with Love by Genie Golding.” Much to her family’s delight, she was also a wonderful cook and baker. She was an avid photographer and chronicled the life of her family with her camera over the course of five decades.
She was born October 17, 1946, in Seattle, WA, to the late John E. and Arlene (Miller) Higginbotham.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, David L. Golding; children, Melissa L. Golding of Alexandria, VA, Kathryn A. Regula (Todd) of Winchester, VA, David W. Golding (Leanne) of Vandergrift, PA, and Timothy J. Golding, (Lisa) of Mechanicsburg; sisters, Marcy E. Cummings (Mike) of Vonore, TN and Kathy C. Higginbotham of Nashville, TN; brother, John E. Higginbotham, Jr. (Kristy) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Maeve, Dylan, Madilyn, Audrey, Nathan, Luke, Ava, Nora, Abigail, and Everett; and several nieces and nephews.
