George E. Eichelberger, 96, of Upper Allen Twp., Mechanicsburg, died Monday, November 6, 2023, surrounded by his family.
A resident of Messiah Lifeways for 24-years, George retired as an equipment specialist for the former Defense Depot, Mechanicsburg and had attended Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. George was a member of Lowther Manor Lodge #781, F.&A.M., Camp Hill; Harrisburg Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest #43, Harrisburg; American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland; as well as an active volunteer at Messiah Lifeways.
George had recently celebrated his 75th wedding anniversary with his wife, Evalene M. (Gettys) Eichelberger, a current resident of Messiah Lifeways. He was a WWII veteran who proudly served in the Army as a Medic with tours of duty that included the Pacific.
Born on January 4, 1927, in Huntingdon, he was the son of George E. and Etta M. (O'Neal) Eichelberger. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Jack and Richard.
Surviving are his son and daughter, David G. Eichelberger (Jose Vallejos) of Philadelphia, and Susan E. Shafer (Scott A.) of Downingtown; brother, Joseph Eichelberger (Pauline) of Saxton; three grandchildren, Heidi Thomas (Steven), Lea Engle (Jason), and Zachary Shafer (Sarah); seven great grandchildren, Emma, Molly, Samuel, Thomas, Hadley, Evalene, and Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Simpson St, Mechanicsburg. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
