Gordon Carl Arnold

September 12, 1937 — March 9, 2026

Mechanicsburg

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Gordon C. Arnold, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated physician. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 9, 2026, at the age of 88.

Gordon was born on September 12, 1937, in York, Pennsylvania, to the late Edna V. Arnold and Walter L. Arnold. He lived a life centered on compassion, dedication, and cared for both his family and the people he served.

Gordon served in the military, in the US Navy, serving as a Physician in Vietnam. For his first medical practice, he joined the practice of Dr Robert Stoner, then later established Arnold and Schucker Surgical Associates and lastly joined his third practice and became a member of Capital Area Surgical Associates from which he retired.

After retirement he worked for the State Department of Disability Determination where he earned the admiration and respect of both colleagues and patients. He received his medical doctorate degree from Hahnemann University and earlier earned a bachelor’s degree from Moravian College where he studied Biology.

Outside of his medical career, Gordon was deeply involved in his church and community. He was also very musically talented. Gordon was first taught to sing and perform by his mother at age 5. She was the choir director and pianist at their church and encouraged him to sing at an early age. He continued to sing for most of his life, in the choir at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral, where he has been a member for many years. He was also on the Vestry at St. Stephen’s as well as serving as a Lay Eucharistic minister. Gordon loved classical music, opera and great food. He was an excellent chef.

Gordon also loved traveling, especially spending time with family at Rehoboth Beach. One of his favorite destinations was Italy, where he enjoyed exploring the culture and history. These trips created many special memories with his family. He met his beloved wife in Europe in 1980. She was his tour guide on a tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Howton) Arnold of 43 years, and their two daughters, Lindsay Arnold (Jeff Magnuson) of Lexington, SC and Alexis Arnold who continue his legacy of kindness, love, and dedication.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12th, 2026, from 5-7pm in the chapel of Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070, to honor and celebrate Gordon’s life. A memorial service will then take place on Saturday, March 14th starting at 10am at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral, 221 N Front St, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
