Grace C. McLuckie

April 25, 1932 — July 15, 2025

Lewisberry, PA

Grace C. McLuckie, 93, of Lewisberry, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital, with family by her side. Born in Altoona on April 25, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Henrietta C. (Antes) Parker.

A graduate of Altoona Area High School, Grace went on to earn her nursing degree from the Philadelphia Presbyterian School of Nursing. She dedicated her career to caring for others, working as a registered nurse at York Memorial Hospital and Hillcrest Hospital in Ohio, before becoming nursing supervisor at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg. She would also spend time at ManorCare Rehabilitation in Camp Hill before finishing her career with the Pennsylvania state government. Along the way, she built friendships that lasted a lifetime, touching countless lives with her compassion and commitment. Many of these colleagues visited her in recent weeks as her health declined—a testament to the impact she made.

Known for going above and beyond in everything she did, Grace combined gentle care with a firm, no-nonsense approach. At work, the distinctive click-clack of her high heels was enough to let everyone know the supervisor had arrived. At home, Grace brought that same balance of kindness and strength to her role as a single mother. She was both good cop and bad cop for her three children and had a trademark "look" that let you know she meant business. Yet, her family was always her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in watching it grow.

Grace had a keen sense of style and took pride in always looking prim and proper. She enjoyed crafting, was an accomplished organist, and routinely listened to church hymns as she fell asleep at night. Though she didn't attend services regularly, her faith and Christian values were central to her life.

She also embraced life's pleasures and adventures. Wednesday happy hours—with a glass of white zinfandel in hand—became a weekly staple. She loved the beach, especially vacationing in Ocean City, MD, where she even parasailed a time or two. A seasoned traveler, Grace explored destinations from the Hawaiian Islands to the Azores and countless places in between.

Grace embodied the name she was given at birth, defined by her compassion, strength, and other graceful qualities she would generously share with family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Surviving Grace are her children, D. Clare Tewell (husband, Thomas) of Mayfield Heights, OH, William "Bill" McLuckie (wife, Lynn) of New Cumberland, and David "Dave" McLuckie of Lewisberry; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cynthia "Cindy" McLuckie; and some very special aunts to whom she was particularly close-Donna Armstrong, Betty Humphries and Clare Yeakel.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, at Wyndamere Heights E.C. Church, Lewisberry, from 11:30AM until services begin at 1:30PM in the church. A nurse honor guard will pay tribute, followed by Pastor Tim Seiger officiating. Burial will take place at 2PM on Tuesday, July 22, in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Grace's name to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
