Harriet V. Watts, 86, of Messiah Village, Upper Allen Twp. and formerly of Mechanicsburg departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 15, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born in Harrisburg to the late Roy and Laura Davis. She was the widow of James P. Watts.
After graduating from the former William Penn High School she enrolled in the Harrisburg Hospital Nursing School. Harriet began her long career in nursing at Harrisburg Hospital and later retired from the Practice of Dr. Everhart in Camp Hill. Harriet loved the excitement of the medical field and was a disciplined professional. She retired in 1994 to devote her time to caring for her husband James as he battled Alzheimers disease.
A longtime Mechanicsburg resident, Harriet had resided at Messiah Village for the past six years. She was a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ, Harrisburg and more recently, Faith United Church of Christ, New Cumberland. In her spare time she enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the church choir. Harriet valued family above all else, and she will be deeply missed by her close relatives.
She is survived by a son, Dr. James P. Watts, III (Jo-anne) of Syracuse, NY; a daughter, Suzanne V. Ritter (Charles H.) of Camp Hill; three grandchildren, Meagan Pryor Millard (Tristram) of New Orleans, LA, Robert Watts of Santa Fe, NM, Joseph Watts (Kate) of Media; and a great-grandson, Oswald Millard.
Viewing will be held at 10:30am followed by funeral services at 11:30am Thursday at Messiah Village Chapel, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Alzheimers Association of South Central PA, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
