Harry M. Derrick, 65, of Etters, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Harry was a 1975 graduate of Red Land High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. He began his career at Hamilton Bank and in 2020 retired from Wells Fargo Bank, main office in Harrisburg, after a successful 30+ year career as a Business Banking Manager.
A dedicated member of Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church in Etters, Harry recently held the post of church treasurer and was an active supporter of the Salem Shares Food Pantry. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg and, over the years, volunteered with the March of Dimes and with AHEDD Inc. Harry was an avid sports enthusiast and held a sincere love for golfing. In addition to cherished time spent with both family and friends on the golf course, his other interests included a passion for cooking (most notably his world-famous whoopie pies), biking the PA Rails to Trails, bird watching, board games and tracking the weather. He also loved watching movies and listening to music, especially Bruce Springsteen.
Harry was born in Harrisburg, the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Bubb) Derrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Louise Derrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Karen L. (Hamilton) Derrick; sons, Samuel W. Derrick of Cleveland, OH and Jacob E. Derrick and wife Dena M. Hillison of Chicago, IL; siblings, Scott S. Derrick and wife Helena R. Michie of Houston, TX, Rev. Linda Sue Trout and husband George E. of Baltimore, MD, and David R. Derrick of Mechanicsburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 28th at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Road Etters, PA with the Rev. Jenny Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
