James E. Garling

James E. Garling, 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on April 20, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on June 2, 1938, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Norman L. and Mary I. Garling.

A proud graduate of the Drexel Institute of Technology, James dedicated over 58 years to his career as a Professional Civil Engineer and Professional Surveyor in Central Pennsylvania. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he contributed to numerous projects with PennDOT and various local government agencies.

He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 68 years, Carolyn L. (Free) Garling; his daughter Cathy L. Disharoon (Frank) of Federalsburg, MD; his son James K. Garling (Christina) of Jessup, MD; and his daughter Jennifer E. Heckenbach (Greg) of Verde, NV. His legacy also lives on through his seven cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

James had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished his time spent hunting, fishing, and relaxing at the beach. He was also a passionate and loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers.

A private service for the close family will be held at a later date.
