James Leo McAneny, 76, of New Cumberland, PA passed away on June 16, 2025. He was born on December 20, 1948, in Johnstown, PA, to the late Dr. James and Sarah (Ward) McAneny.
Jim’s academic career took him from Mt. St. Mary’s University, where he received his B.S. in History, then earned his law degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Jim practiced law in government and private practice throughout his career. He also was a Vietnam War Veteran. A true outdoorsman at heart, Jim found joy in fishing, canoeing, bird watching, and camping – always looking forward to his annual Potter County fishing trip with his family. His love for nature was matched only by his affection for dogs. A passionate history buff with a particular interest in the Civil War, he spent countless hours researching and refurbishing antique guns, blending his love for history with his hobbies. Above all, Jim cherished the moments spent with family; his grandchildren lovingly referred to him as "P Paw," a name that echoed the warmth of his spirit.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife, Karen (Legacy) McAneny; his sons, Alex (Jenny) and Chris (Angie) McAneny; his beloved grandchildren, Abigail, Charlotte, Alaina, and Evan McAneny; his sisters, Sally McAneny, Marguerite Siegel McAneny, and Ann McAneny Summerson; and Finn, his dog.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 10 – 11 AM at Parthemore Funeral Home followed by a Mass at St. Theresa’s at 11:30 AM. There will be a time of gathering at the Little Flower Social Hall after mass, all are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, Jim would want you to make a donation to a charity close to your heart.
