Janet (Bodley) Carchidi

May 2, 1936 — May 30, 2024

Camp Hill, PA

Janet Ellen Carchidi, 88, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, while residing at Columbia Cottage, Linglestown. She was the daughter of the late Charles “Red” and Annie (Smith) Bodley, born on May 2, 1936 in Lewistown.

Growing up in Mifflin County, Janet was a graduate of Lewistown High School, going on to become a registered nurse. Upon completion of Harrisburg Hospital’s School of Nursing, she would become a nursing manager at Holy Spirit Hospital before gaining employment with the PA Department of Welfare, Harrisburg; she would end up retiring from the State in the late 1990s.

Janet was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill. She enjoyed traveling as well as spending time with family and friends. A grateful person always, she would routinely respond with “thank you so kindly,” or “thank you very much.” Often embodying the spirit of her favorite color, yellow, Janet did what she could to encourage those around her, promoting a sense of hope and optimism wherever she went. She looked forward to trips to Longwood Gardens, and without question, the apple of her eye was her faithful canine companion, Sophie.

Surviving Janet are her children, Jeffrey Baker (Beverly) of Kutztown, Tamera “Tammy” Swink (Thomas) of Harrisburg, and Teresa Eckard of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Jacob Baker (Samantha), Kelsey Baker, Allison Beck (Christopher), Ben Swink (Laura), Claire Woleslagle (Zach), Sara Eckard, and Emily Leedy (Andrew); six great-grandchildren (with another on the way); a stepson, John Carchidi (Carl); sister-in-law, Zora Ann Bodley; nieces and nephews, and several close friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Carchidi; three stepsons, Thomas, Jeffery and Robert Carchidi; a sister, Betty Bubb; and three brothers, Charles “Sonny”, Noel, and Michael Bodley.

A public graveside service will be held at 2PM on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Janet’s name to Longwood Gardens at www.longwoodgardens.org/support.
