Jean A. (Jones) Jacobs, 88, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Forest Park Nursing & Rehabilitation in Carlisle. Born April 19, 1938, in Lemoyne, she was the daughter of the late Gordon “Buck” and Loretta (Whitaker) Jones.
Known to most as “Jeanne,” she spent nearly all her years between Lemoyne and New Cumberland, quietly building a legacy not through accolades, but through the countless lives she touched. To know Jeanne was to feel welcome. She had a natural curiosity about people—often beginning conversations with her familiar, heartfelt question, “Where are you from?”—but it was what followed that made her special. She listened, she remembered, and she cared.
That caring spirit defined her life’s work. Whether as a former employee of A to Z Tax Service or, more meaningfully, as the owner and operator of her in-home babysitting service for over three decades, Jeanne devoted herself to others. Her home was rarely quiet, filled with the laughter and energy of children she treated as her own. To many, she was far more than a babysitter—she was a second mother and a source of comfort and guidance that endured well beyond childhood.
Jeanne’s love for people extended into her passions, most notably her deep connection to the Harrisburg Senators. As a dedicated member and Vice President of the Senators Fan Club, she poured her heart into supporting the team and its players. She organized annual “welcome back” dinners each spring, planned bus trips to away games, and even opened her home to players as they began their professional journeys. These were not fleeting interactions—Jeanne formed genuine, lasting relationships, maintaining connections with many players long after their time in Harrisburg had ended. One of the proudest moments of her life came when she was personally invited by Vladimir Guerrero Sr. to attend his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown—a testament to the impact she had on those she supported so faithfully.
Her commitment to community was equally evident in her volunteer work. She generously gave her time to both the West Shore and Capital Area Chapters of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, serving in leadership roles, and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 143, in New Cumberland. She was also a longtime member of the West Shore Sportsman’s Association.
Above all else, Jeanne’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, taking immense pride in watching them grow and thrive. Those closest to her will hold tightly to the memories they shared—especially the blessing of celebrating her 88th birthday together just days before her passing. She will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Surviving Jean are her children, Eugene “Skip” F. Eagle of New Cumberland, Stephen M. Eagle (Elsie) of Mechanicsburg, David G. Jacobs (Carolyn) of Camp Hill, and Cynthia “Cyndi” D. Shevenock (Jeffrey) of Reisterstown, MD; grandchildren, Angela Halpin (Brent), Jessica Eagle (Brian Tierney), Dustin Eagle, Jedrek Shevenock, Tate Moore-Jacobs, and Maura Schimp (Mitchel); great grandchildren, Aidan Halpin and Patrick James Schimp; siblings, Shirley B.
